As a homeschool mom there are certain conversations that I hear regularly. Having patience is one of the most heard topics. It generally goes something like this:
“You homeschool?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, I wish I could do that… but I don’t have the patience!”
Let’s stop right there.
Besides the fact that this is one of the most commonly held excuses NOT to homeschool, it also brings into the forefront more misinformation. That patience is a pre-requisite for homeschooling and that homeschool moms possess it in large quantities.
Ha! I wish! Both assumptions couldn’t be further from the truth!
Homeschooling is a right and a calling. Those whom God calls, He equips. It’s up to those who are called to walk in this grace that comes from above.
The majority of “patient” homeschool moms recognize that their strength comes from the Lord.
“Let us not grow weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
These moms also take some time during their day to replenish their store of patience in the Word of God or through prayer. Fortunately, God is faithful to meet busy moms where we are at in regards to availability of time!
These moms also know when to say “when” and make provision for time spent with other like-minded moms. There’s a saying, “No man is an island”. That goes for moms too!
These “patient” moms also have a physical outlet for when stress builds. A walk around the block is the mom equivalent of an adult time out!
A homeschool Mom drawing her strength daily from the Lord and through fellowship. That’s how a patient homeschool mom is made!
