As wives and mothers, we are to be a sort of steady presence in our home life and in the lives of our husbands and children. We are blessed with our homes in which to thrive and cultivate a loving environment for our families. Home is our domain, Ladies, and the people in our homes are our God-given assignments.
In setting about the tasks of being a wife, mother, homemaker, and homeschool teacher, we strive to do our best. Yet, we quickly become painfully aware of our shortcomings, our struggles, and all the weak spots. If we aren’t careful, we fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to other women . . . especially those found in the pages and squares of social media sites. Endless scrolling leads us to believe that other women have every area of their lives figured out and put together—complete perfection, if you will.
So, we try harder, because we want all to be well in our own homes . . . which leads us into yet another trap of attempting to depend on ourselves. We begin pushing ourselves to try this method or join that challenge or change to this curriculum or sign up for that program. Off we go to force all the things at once into our homes and upon our family members: new routines, new recipes (from scratch only!), new books, new decorations (hand-sewn, of course!), new hair and make-up, new Bible study group, new homeschool co-op. . . only to realize that all of this just isn’t sustainable. You’re exhausted and you can’t go on like this.
Here’s the painful, yet freeing truth about everyone of us:
Not one of us is enough!
We cannot do it ALL!! We will fall short in one area or another at some point or another, Ladies. Placing unrealistic demands upon ourselves in order to tend to the duties of our households leads to a frazzled state of burnout. We will never be enough because we are limited–we’re human and we need help!
This is where God’s grace is right on time!!!!
“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
~2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Remember, we have Jesus Christ as our Savior and we can turn to Him in our weaknesses and let His power rest upon us! Pray to the Lord, seek His face concerning your home, your husband and your children. Ask Him for guidance and direction concerning your homeschooling. And guess what? He is faithful to answer us. The answer may be to simply stay the course with what you’re doing for a while longer. The answer may be to try one or two new things, a bit at a time. God’s answer may even come through an idea on a social media page here or there–they aren’t all bad! The point is to rely on Him, not on others, not on ourselves, because none of us is enough. But, He is.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
~Proverbs 3:5-6
