Did you know the word “love” is mentioned over 500 times in the bible?  When you are reading the word, you are being instructed on how God loves and how to love others.  In this Valentine’s season, here are some verses throughout the bible on the topic of love that you can share with your homeschool.

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.  Leviticus 19:18

The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Numbers 14:18

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:24

Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. Psalm 6:4

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6

The Lord watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.  Psalm 145:20

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 3:3

For I, the Lord, love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant with them. Isaiah 61:8

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. Lamentation 3:22

Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Joel 2:3

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.  Luke 6:32

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 1 Corinthians 13:4

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, Philippians 1:9

Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Colossians 3:19

May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 1 Thessalonians 3:12

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people. Philemon 1:7

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds Hebrews 10:24

and finally-

Above all,love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

No matter the translation you read, the theme of love can be found throughout the word.  What can you do today to love more like Jesus?
