Doing random acts of kindness throughout the year is such a blessing. I have had folks do things for me many times and I like to pay-it-forward. It also shows my children how to treat others and to be kind to everyone. It’s especially important to show kindness during the holiday season because so many people go through hard times this time of year.
My family likes to do kind things for others throughout December as a way of showing Christ to them. Jesus came to serve, not to be served. Doing random acts of kindness is a way of serving others. We need to be the hands and feet of Jesus and my deepest desire is for my children to be more like Jesus as they grow older. This is one small way of helping them to behave more Godly toward others.
Random Acts of Kindness for Christmas:
- Donate toys to a charity
- Take baked goods to a neighbor (we do this every year and our neighbors love it)
- Put candy canes on windshields at the grocery store with a note about Jesus
- Write a thank you note for your mail carrier and leave a bag of treats for them
- Tape some coins to a vending machine
- Pay for the person behind you in the drive thru
- Take food to an animal shelter
- Take Christmas cookies to a local nursing home as well as homemade cards
- Let someone go in front of you at the store
- Put a sticky note on a public bathroom mirror with “Merry Christmas” written on it
- Tape a pack of popcorn to a Redbox machine
- Donate food to a local organization for the poor and homeless
- Give the garbage truck driver a tin of homemade cookies with a note of thanks
- Send a card to a friend in need
- Give a stranger a compliment
- Write Christmas cards for soldiers overseas
- Hold open doors for people behind you
- Bring in donuts to co-workers
- Leave a generous tip for your server at a restaurant along with a Christmas card
- Rake a neighbors lawn for them
This is just a small list of random acts of kindness. The possibilities are endless. I know it sounds cliche but spread some cheer this Christmas season by doing one thing on this list. If you feel led do all of them or come up with your own. Have your children participate and see what a difference it makes in their lives as well.
