It’s November, the month of thankfulness! What are you doing in your homeschool to promote an attitude of gratitude for this month?

Thanksgiving shouldn’t be just for one day a year! We should celebrate gratitude every day! If this seems like too much of a task, try celebrating every day in November.

Here are some ideas:

Memorize scripture. This activity is sure to shift the focus off of “have-nots” to gratefulness by its very nature. This is also a good activity for parents to practice alongside their children.

“I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.” Psalm 7:17

I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7

During November:

Write a handwritten letter of thanks. Everybody loves handwritten notes!

Make a gratitude list and share what is on your gratitude list. This helps put your mind on what you have and not what you don’t have!

Recognize each day as a gift. A great way to build the gratitude muscle!

Show appreciation to your parent(s) by writing a heartfelt letter or making a heartfelt phone call. Let your children see you sending out thanks to your parents. Someday, it’ll be their turn!

Give heartfelt thanks to people. A word of thanks goes a long way!

Be thankful for who you are. God made you special. Remember that!

Give hope and encouragement to someone in need. You never know what someone is going through. Your kindness can make all the difference!

Practice random acts of kindness. Help clean up a yard, pay for someone’s food order, you name it. Kindness is contagious! Repeat often!

Begin and end your day with gratitude. When you open your eyes, greet the morning with thankfulness. Before you close your eyes, end the day with thankfulness. Make this a family practice!

Count 100 blessings. Can you do it?

Make a gratitude jar filled with notes on life’s big and small blessings. Pull a blessing as needed.

Make a donation to a charity.

It’s not difficult to think of ways to show gratitude and thankfulness. But, it does take effort to make it a daily practice.
