I’m sure each homeschool mom can come up with a list of things they wished they would have known when they first started. As I reflect over the years, these are the six things I wish I knew on day one!

Finding your homeschool rhythm takes time.

In my experience, I found that it can take up to a year or even a bit longer to find that homeschooling groove. Instead of throwing in the towel or getting down on yourself when things aren’t going right, pause to reflect. Try to narrow down what isn’t working and work on that one thing, especially if your expectations are one thing!

Homeschoolers and homeschool methods are unique and plentiful!

There are such a wide variety of ways to homeschool—classical, Charlotte Mason, Unit Study, unschooling, and so on. If one method isn’t working well in your household, don’t be afraid to step out of the box and change things up!

When rough days come, throw out the script and change the schedule!

Just like adults have bad days, kids do too! When difficult days come and throw off your schedule, don’t stress about it! Please take the opportunity to have a movie day, read-aloud, puzzle day, or take it outside!

Your schedule is your own!

Early risers, late sleepers, creative night owls unite! Blur the lines between learning and living! Education doesn’t just have to happen between set hours.

Keep learning next to them.

Take time to nurture and nourish yourself. Your brain loves to learn too! Keep learning and growing in step with your children.

Don’t Go At It Alone

Homeschooling is plentiful! So are the opportunities for fun, fellowship, and friends for both you and your children. Whether it’s in real life or virtual, there are groups in just about every shape, size, denomination, and walk of life.

Enjoy these years because they will pass quickly! If you are a veteran homeschooler, what words would you tell a new homeschooling mom?
