My whole family loves hot cocoa. We drink it anytime of year. Recently, we were trying to come up with some ideas for little gifts for people. Something homemade and not too expensive. I also wanted it to be pretty.
We had our Christmas co-op meeting last week and I brought along all the stuff to make hot cocoa in a jar. They are so adorable and the kids loved making them. It’s super easy and not very expensive. They are nice to give to neighbors, the mail person, or teachers.
What You Need:
- Pint sized jars with lids
- ¼ inch ribbon or decorative string
- Labels (make your own)
- Jar funnel (for pouring in the ingredients)
- Several bowls and measuring cups
- Dried milk
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Sugar
- Mini marshmallows
- Mini chocolate chips
- White chocolate chips (optional)
- Candy canes (optional)
Directions:
Make sure your jars and lids are clean and completely dry. Make labels with instructions (see below). Pour each ingredient into a separate bowl and have a measuring cup ready for each item.
Using the jar funnel, layer the ingredients: ½ cup sugar, ½ cup cocoa powder, ½ dried milk, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips. Fill the jars to the top and put the lid on tightly.
Cut a piece of ribbon or string and add a hole-punched label and wrap around the lip of the jar. Before tying the ribbon or string, add a candy cane and tie tightly. Voila! Finished.
Repeat until you have made as many jars as you want.
Label Instructions:
Either type this up and print or write on labels:
Mix contents in a large bowl and store in an air-tight container. Makes 6 servings.
To make one serving: measure ⅓ cup of mix in a cup. Add 1 cup of boiling water. Stir and enjoy.
These little jars are so sweet and fun to make. It will brighten anyone’s day. I hope you enjoy making them. Put your own spin on them by using pretty ribbons or making fun labels on the computer. Happy Winter!
