Rainy days are those types of days where I tend to change things up a bit. Recently, I wrote a post that offered five fun recipes to make with your kids on such days. Once they have finished licking all of the bowls and spoons, burn off their energy with these five games that will cause your kids to forget the gloomy weather outdoors!

Sardines (Reverse Hide-and-Seek)

Sardines is an entertaining game similar to hide and seek, only in reverse, One person hides, and everyone else searches for the hidden person. As kids find the hidden person, they join them in their hiding spot (encourage them to stay quiet). The hidden group soon looks like a bunch of sardines!

Indoor Bowling

Ten empty and clean water bottles or soda cans

Tennis Ball

Acrylic Paints or Spray Paint

Marker

Masking or Electrical Tape

  1. Use the masking tape to create a bowling lane.
  2. Peel the wrappers off the bottles or soda cans and paint them. Let them dry.
  3. Arrange the bottles in order.
  4. Let the child use a tennis ball to strike all the bottles.

Cotton Ball Pick-Up

Bag of cotton balls

Spatula

Blindfold

Pan

Table

  1. Place the cotton balls and the pan on the table. Blindfold the kids when it is their turn and hand them the spatula.
  2. Each child has to try and pick up as many cotton balls as possible and place it in the pan.
  3. The child who collects the most cotton balls is the winner!

Spoons (Card Game)

At a table, sit in a circle.  Shuffle a deck of cards. Place spoons in the middle.  There should be one less than the number of players.

Deal each player four cards. Place remaining cards in a pile.  The first player takes a card from the deck. He or she decides whether to keep this card or not. After discarding one card from his he passes it to the next person in the circle.

Try to get four of a kind.  First person who does grabs a spoon.  The rest of the players can now grab one.  In order not to lose, you must grab a spoon.  The person who did not get a spoon is out. Remove a spoon repeat until there is a winner!

Speed Stacking

With 21 red solo cups, have kids stack them and keep them standing for five seconds and then put it back in one stack within one minute. This is a fun and challenging game for kids of all ages!
