My children love to play board games. We have so many that it’s hard to choose just one to play. We take turns choosing the games so that it doesn’t get too repetitive. Board games bring families together but they can also be used to teach certain skills. In my next few posts I will be going over some of our favorite board games for each subject. This week math is in the spotlight.

Teaching math can be challenging sometimes. I was never math-minded in school. I loved history and reading. But math did not come easily. Board games would have helped me in so many ways. We utilize math board games as much as possible to enhance our skills. Below is a list of our favorites for learning math. I will list the name of the game, a link to purchase the game (just click on the name of the game to be redirected), the age recommendations, and which math skills the game helps with.

Math Board Games:

  1. Sum Swamp– this game is recommended for ages 5 and up. It helps children practice their addition and subtraction skills.
  2. Rummikub– this game is recommended for ages 8 and up. Children will practice numbers and strategy at the same time.
  3. Money Bags– this game is recommended for ages 7 and up. It is a coin value game that gives children a sense of exactly how much each piece of money is worth.
