Have you ever given a thought to helping other less experienced homeschool moms? Whether you have one year or 15 years under your belt, your experiences and know-how can be very beneficial to a newbie!
If you don’t think you have much to offer, consider these reflections:
- What is the best memory of homeschooling you have?
- What is the worst memory of homeschooling you have?
- What is the best homeschooling decision you’ve made?
- What is the worst homeschooling decision you’ve made?
- What is the biggest “ah-ha” moment in your homeschooling journey?
- What is one thing you wish someone would have told you when you first began homeschooling?
And if you are the newbie reading this, you can ask the above questions. The more homeschooling veterans you talk to, the greater the variety of perspectives. All beneficial in guiding you towards everything from curriculum to coops to choosing friends for you and your children!
You will learn the most from conversations with homeschool moms who don’t come right out and tell you everything they did. But, instead will help guide you in the direction to make the right decisions for your family. You’ll also want to talk to moms who have been able to homeschool through difficulties, illness, job loss, financial and marital problems. Should you experience these things, you’ll be prepared and encouraged that it is possible to make it through the hard times and still continue homeschooling.
Remember that attitudes are contagious. So, be careful who you spend your time with. Choose those moms who are uplifting rather than discouraging.
The Bible also guides us in keeping fellowship:
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Matthew 18:20
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24
“Bear one another burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
“Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25
“As iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
Consider all these things when interacting with less experienced homeschooling moms.
