Biting cold, shorter days, restricted travel. Yep, winter in its finest. Instead of bickering and bad attitudes, how about the remedy for winter blues? Nothing says, “Be gone winter blues” than fun!
Here’s our list of favorite cabin fever busters:
- Have a snow building competition. Who can make the best-dressed snowman, the wackiest snow animal, or the most realistic snow village?
- Turn a boring snowball fight into an Olympic-style sport. Add targets, see who can throw the farthest, who can make and throw them the fastest?
- Don’t forget the elderly. They need extra support. Turn your dull day into a day of service and shovel driveways and sidewalks for the elderly.
- For your furry friends, create a trail of birdseed and veggies in your yard for your favorite furry creatures to enjoy.
- Indoors or out, go on a photo scavenger hunt. Make a list of items to find. Put a competitive edge on it and vote for your favorite photos in a variety of categories. Award a prize to the winner.
- Practice writing with your non-dominant hand.
- Create a summer bucket list.
- Write “thank you” notes.
- Have a board game tournament.
- Take a good look at your closets and drawers. Clear out any unwanted or broken items and small clothes. Then, either pass them on, donate, or sell them online.
- Scour Youtube and try an art tutorial of your choosing.
Remember, the days are short, and many memories will be made. Someday you’ll look back and miss these long days of winter.
So instead of letting the wintertime blues affect you and your family, be proactive and schedule some fun into your homeschooling day. It’s the sure cure for those blues!
