The school year is done, the textbooks are closed, the papers are filed away.  Now is the perfect time to get ready, get set, and rest!  Rest is important not only to us physically but emotionally and spiritually!  As a homeschool mom no doubt you’ve been running at light speed during the school year.  Now it’s time for you to slow down, and schedule some mandatory rest for your own self!

As you take this time to recoup, consider a time to reflect back on the year.  What went well?   Congratulate yourself.  What didn’t go so well?  Forgive yourself, and think about some ways to better the situation for a positive outcome.

Equally important to consider is your own health.  How are you feeling?  Are you getting enough sleep?  What about proper nutrition and water intake?  These are the basics that you cannot ignore!

What about your spiritual life?  Do you have a hobby as an outlet?  If you’ve answered no to any of those questions, take the necessary step to make some changes!  Enlist your spouse and family to assist you in taking care of yourself in all aspects.  In doing this, you help improve the well being of the family as a whole.

Another thing to consider that takes away from your health is clutter.  Clutter is proven to add to stress. You don’t need more storage bins, you need less stuff!   Summer is the perfect time to purge unnecessary items and create harmony in your home.  An organized and uncluttered home is also a great way to help welcome in the new school year when the days of summer come to an end.  Less is really more!

Are you worn out from doing too many of the household chores during the school year?  I strongly urge you to use this slow down in extra curriculum activities to begin training your children to help with new tasks.   Teach your littles and get them on board with helping the household.  If you have older children, give them specific jobs and hold them accountable throughout the summer. When the full schedule of Fall sets in, you’ll be glad you did!

So this summer, take charge of the aspects of your health.  Reflect on your blessings and evaluate what isn’t working and make healthy changes.  You Mom are one of the most important factors in your homeschool!  Don’t forget that breaks are for you too!  Let’s all rush to meet the goal of rest this summer!
