Another of the benefits of homeschooling is the ability to share real life examples of the hand of God in Creation. Many of these examples can be found through Geology.

One of the highlights of our travels was a visit to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. There we got to take in the marvels and wonders of a mammoth collection of gems and minerals. Beholding a multitude of sizes, shapes and colors we stood in awe of God’s handiwork.

All minerals fit into one of 6 crystal systems. These are 6 ORDERLY systems. Each mineral has a structure – an ORDERLY structure. Orderly, NOT random. Precise, NOT random.

During my fourth year at college in a secular Mineralogy class I had this revelation that literally changed my life. It occurred to me that this type of order could not come from chaos. AND, that there must be an INTELLIGENT CREATOR to facilitate it all.

Further more, I was convinced that if God cared enough to knit the very building blocks of Earth’s foundations then how much more care and order did He give to my body when He knit me together?  And, I was humbled to discover that the proof I needed to believe and trust in God was literally right in front of me….set in stone!

In our homeschool, I want more than anything for my children to know that the same hands that created the Earth created them. That they are not a random coincidence and the evidence of this is all around them – right down to the building blocks of Earth’s foundation.

This is just one example of using the evidence from every day life to teach God’s hand in Creation. The foundations of Earth shout praise of its Creator!

Luke 19:40, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

And this former agnostic/evolutionist/creation-mocking girl is glad to know the truth!
